CARMEN’Z KITCHEN
I fell in love with cooking at home. Our kitchen was the center of everything—meals, homework, real-life talks, laughs, and lessons. The big table in the middle was where we all came together, and from a young age, I had a front-row seat to my mom making magic happen with food. That space gave me confidence, taught me to be creative, and showed me that food is way more than just something to eat—it’s a way to connect, express love, and bring people together.
With roots in Puerto Rico and Liberia, food has always been at the heart of every gathering in my life. Celebrations, tough times, regular dinners—it all happens over a plate of something good. As I got older, cooking became more than a family thing—it became therapy. It’s how I decompress, reflect, and show up for the people I care about. Some folks journal or meditate—me, I cook.
Now, I document my recipes to hold on to the flavors and stories I grew up with, and the ones I’ve picked up and made my own over the years. It’s not about perfection—it’s about keeping traditions alive, adding your own twist, and sharing food that means something. If these recipes bring comfort, joy, or just a good meal to someone else, then that’s exactly why I do it.
